How to import a Spotify playlist into Lyra

Updated on

Open Lyra, go to Library and tap Import playlist, then Import from Spotify. Paste the link of a public Spotify playlist, tap Load playlist and then Import: Lyra copies it into your library as a playlist you can edit. You don't need a Spotify account or a Lyra account, and importing is free.

Step by step

  1. Copy the playlist link in Spotify

In Spotify, open the playlist and use Share → Copy link. The link looks like open.spotify.com/playlist/… and the playlist must be public.

  2. Open Import playlist in your Lyra library

In Lyra, tap Library at the bottom of the screen, then the Import playlist tile (Spotify, YouTube, Musi and more). The + button at the top of the Library opens the same options.

  3. Choose Import from Spotify and paste the link

Tap Import from Spotify, tap the field Paste Spotify playlist link, paste the link and tap Load playlist.

  4. Check the preview

Lyra shows the playlist with its cover, name and number of songs. Import makes your own copy; Save only adds a link that follows the Spotify playlist.

  5. Tap Import and wait for it to finish

A bar shows the progress, for example “100 of 112 tracks loaded”. Long playlists take a little longer: keep the screen open until it's done. The playlist then shows its number of items and an Add items button: it's now your own copy.

  6. Find the playlist in your library

The imported playlist appears at the top of Library under Recently added. It's yours: from its ⋯ menu you can edit it, add songs, sort them or delete it.

Differences by device

iPhone

The steps and screenshots on this page come from the Lyra iPhone app, used as a guest.

Android

The path is the same: Library → Import playlist → Import from Spotify. On Android you can also paste a Spotify playlist link straight into the Search bar: Lyra recognizes it and opens the same preview with the Import button.

Web player

Importing from other services isn't available on the web player at listen.lyramusic.app. Lyra shows “Not available on the web app”: open the mobile or desktop app to import.

Good to know

  • Only public playlists can be imported. If yours is private, make it public in Spotify, import it, then set it back to private.
  • Long playlists work: in our tests a public playlist of 10,000 songs came through with 9,988 of them; the remaining few weren't available.
  • An import is a one-time copy. Songs added to the Spotify playlist later don't appear in Lyra: import it again, or use Save to follow the original.
  • Lyra doesn't connect to your Spotify account: it reads the public playlist from its link and plays the songs from its own catalogue.

If something goes wrong

“This playlist is private”
Spotify isn't showing the playlist publicly. In Spotify, make it public, import it in Lyra, then make it private again.
“Invalid Spotify link”
The link must point to a Spotify playlist (open.spotify.com/playlist/…). Copy it again from Spotify with Share → Copy link.
“Error importing playlist” or “An error occurred”
Check your internet connection and try again.
“Not available on the web app”
You're on the web player, which can't import from other services. Use the iPhone, Android or desktop app.
The playlist has fewer songs than on Spotify
Songs that aren't available in Lyra are skipped. For long playlists, also check that the progress bar reached 100% before leaving the screen.
A saved Spotify playlist shows “This playlist is private” or “No content yet”
You used Save, which reads the Spotify playlist live. If its owner made it private or deleted it, Lyra can't read it any more. Use Import to keep a copy of your own.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a Spotify account or Spotify Premium?

No. Lyra reads the public playlist from its link. You never sign in to Spotify in Lyra.

Do I need a Lyra account?

No, importing works as a guest too. If you create an account later, your library comes with you, imported playlists included.

Is importing free?

Yes. Importing playlists doesn't require Lyra Premium.

What's the difference between Import and Save?

Import creates your own copy, which you can edit, sort and keep. Save adds the Spotify playlist as a link that follows it: it changes when its owner changes it and stops working if it becomes private.

Does Lyra play the songs from Spotify?

No. Lyra doesn't connect to Spotify or use its audio: it copies the list of songs and plays them from Lyra's own catalogue.
